fall asleep while meditating.<br \/>\r\nWhat can I do?<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nAnswer:<br \/>\r\nI have heard that everyone returns to the center at night while sleeping.<br \/>\r\nIt happens when a person drops into dreamless sleep for about two hours, each night.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nAt the center is the source of life energy.<br \/>\r\nLife energy arises, out of the emptiness of the center.<br \/>\r\nThat is why in the morning,<br \/>\r\nwaking up, you feel refreshed,<br \/>\r\nfull of energy for the new day.<br \/>\r\nWhen starting to meditate,<br \/>\r\nbecause our first experience of the center, happens while sleeping,<br \/>\r\nit is very easy and natural to fall asleep.<br \/>\r\nReturning to the center is such a deep relaxation, and so nourishing, that, in the beginning it takes some effort to actually remain awake.<br \/>\r\nThat is one reason why it is helpful to use active meditation techniques.<br \/>\r\nIf you are doing something active, for example, strong breathing, running, bicycling,<br \/>\r\nswimming, walking, exercising, or anything that brings your heart, rate up and increases the flow of oxygen in your body,<br \/>\r\nbefore sitting, silently, you\u2019ll learn the art of remaining awake and aware while sitting, silently,<br \/>\r\nmeditating.<br \/>\r\nBut even if you do fall asleep while meditating, be as non-judgmental as, possible.<br \/>\r\nIf you notice that you were asleep when you were meditating, remember you notice only because you have already woken up.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nSo rather than, criticizing yourself for sleeping,<br \/>\r\nwe recommend that you recognize,\u201cI\u2019m, awake now!\u201d and appreciate being awake.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nValue being awake and aware,<br \/>\r\nand it, will go on growing.<br \/>\r\n<br
